Driving social value with sustainable paint

CHALLENGE

To assist and coach the annual winners of the Student Battle in their challenge to make their winning plan come true in a developing country. These plans concentrated on making a difference on a social or environmental level.

INSIGHTS

Coloured houses bring happiness to the inhabitants, increase the perception of safety and stimulate behaviour change, since people keep them neat when the area is coloured. Most of the paint being used is non-sustainable. The Student Battle provided a solution using paint based on wood oil residue.

SOLUTION

We organized a learning journey to gather insights about a sustainable paint factory. During this trip we trained 2 local employees in running the business, the marketing and the operational aspects of the sustainable business.

POSITIVE IMPACT

  • Educating and training local employees of the sustainable paint Academy
  • Setting up the infrastructure for The Colour Academy
  • Making a real difference by painting the central square of the Favela Providencia, where hundreds of people pass by every day
Coloured houses bring happiness to the inhabitants
and it increases the perception of safety.
